All About: Exemption Sheets
For certain Hazmat i.e. Batteries and Non-Hazmat products such as blades/razors, Amazon requires from the sellers a signed exemption report to obtain approval for selling of that product on amazon. Here are the possible cases in which we have to submit the exemptions sheets;
For Hazmat Products
- Finished Cosmetic Products
Finished cosmetic products are exempt from the legislation requiring the provision of a 16 point Safety Data Sheet (SDS). However, there are legal requirements under other legislation. For that reason, additional information for example,
- The UN number
- Packing group
- Flash point
- Risk and Safety phrases about the product are required to maintain appropriate risk management measures.
How to apply for reinstatement of listing?
- Make the Exemption Sheet (ES) by using following format for Reinstatement of listing in a Table
- ASIN
- UPC
- Item Name / Description (Title)
- Regulatory Class
- UN Number
- Packing group
- Flash Point (In celsius degree0C)
- Risk and Safety Phrases
- At the bottom add your signature and date then submit the jpg file of that document
- Lithium Batteries or Products Containing Lithium Batteries
Lithium batteries are classified as hazmat under class 9 of all transportation regulations. However, regulators exempt the vast majority of consumer products that contain batteries not exceeding a total of 5kg (11.02 pounds) because of the limited risk due to the relatively small lithium content.
For shipping and labeling reasons Amazon requires information as to whether or not the product contains a lithium battery and, if so, how it is packed.
- Make the ES document by using following format for Reinstatement of listing in a Table
- ASIN (ex: BXXXXXXXXX)
- UPC (ex: 1234567890123)
- Item Name / Description
- Does your product contain an unregulated battery supply (for example, Alkaline, NiMh battery)? (Yes/No)
- Does your product contain a lithium ion battery? (Yes/No)
- Does your product contain a lithium metal battery? (Yes/No)
- Is the lithium battery contained in the product? (Yes/No)
- Is the lithium battery packed with the product? (Yes/No)
- Is your product a standalone lithium battery? (Yes/No)
- What is the battery weight (in grams)?
- What is the Watt hour (Wh) measurement?
- At the bottom add your signature and date then proceed to submit the jpg file of that document.
For Non Hazmat Products
We will have to check the products with regards to the Hazardous Materials Identification Guide for ascertaining non Hazmat products and prepare an ES using the following format for Reinstatement of listing in a Table;
I hereby confirm that our products mentioned below do not fall under any of the above mentioned regulations and are therefore not considered hazardous material:
- ASIN (ex : BXXXXXXXXX)
- UPC (ex: 1234567890123)
- Item Name/Description
- Is the product or packaging marked with warnings, including but not limited to, irritant, harmful, corrosive, flammable, oxidizing, danger for the environment, gas, Limited Quantity or similar warning? (Yes/No)
- Is the product a liquid or contains a liquid with a flashpoint below 100°C? (Yes/No)
- Does your product contain compressed gas (for example, deodorants, hair spray, or gas cartridges)? (Yes/No)
- Is the product a non-spillable battery, packed with a non-spillable battery, or contain a non-spillable battery for example, a lead-acid battery? (Yes/No)
- At the bottom add your signature and date then submit the jpg file of that document
Products Containing Magnetized Material
Speakers and subwoofers can potentially be regulated for air transportation due to their magnetic field strength, which can disrupt aircraft equipment.
If the maximum field strength observed in 4.6 meters distance is 0.00525 gauss or less, the article is acceptable for air transport. If the field strength exceeds this limit, the product is considered Magnetized Material and is not eligible for air transport. Amazon requires information as to whether or not your product is regulated based on this information.
- For products with field strength observed in 4.6 meters distance is 0.00525 gauss or less
We have checked the following products with regards to the above requirement. I hereby confirm that the magnetic field of the biggest speaker (magnet) we ship only reaches the critical value at a distance of 1 meter. According to our measurement and best knowledge our products are completely uncritical in this concern.
- Make the ES document by using following format for Reinstatement of listing in a Table
- ASIN (ex: BXXXXXXXXX)
- UPC (ex: 1234567890123)
- Item Name/Description
- Regulatory Class
- UN Number (ex.: UN1950, UN3090, UN2800)
- Packing Group (ex.: I, II, III)
- At the bottom add your signature and date then submit the jpg file of that document
- For products with field strength observed in 4.6 meters distance is 0.00525 gauss or more
We have checked the following products with regards to the above requirements and confirm the following hazardous information for our products:

ASIN (ex: BXXXXXXXXX): Amazon Standard Identification Numbers (ASIN) are unique blocks of 10 letters or numbers that identify items. ASIN are assigned by Amazon. You can find the ASIN on the product detail page
UPC (ex: 1234567890123): A 13 digit barcoding standard used for marking products at retail point of sale.
Regulatory Class: Dangerous goods are divided into nine classes (in addition to several subcategories) on the basis of the specific chemical characteristics producing the risk.
UN Number (ex.: UN1950, UN3090, UN2800): UN numbers or UN ID’s are four digit numbers that identify hazardous substances and articles (such as explosives, flammable liquids, toxic substances, corrosives, etc.) in the framework of international transport.
Packing Group (ex.: I, II, III): Packing groups are used for the purpose of determining the degree of protective packaging required for Dangerous Goods during transportation. There are three Packing Groups (PG). PG I is the most dangerous, PG II represents a moderate danger and PG III is the least dangerous. Packing Groups are
always written in Roman numerals to differentiate them from the Class numbers. It is possible for a substance to appear in more than one Packing Group, depending on its concentration. The Packing Group number or numbers should be provided by the manufacturer
Flash Point (in degree Celsius): The lowest temperature at which it can vaporize to form an ignitable mixture in air.
Risk & Safety phrases: Safety warning phrases on the manufacturer’s packaging.
